All of a sudden the top bar with the tabs has disappeared from my taskmanager.

Double-click the top border and/or toolbars.

This is a common usability problem, which has been present since Windows NT
3.1! :-)

Double-click anywhere on the margin inside the window border - for example,
to the left of the "End Task" button. The window will return to nomal with
menu, tabs etc.

If you double-click again, the untabbed, menu-less form of window will be
restored; and so on, back and forth.

Apparently this behaviour is "by design" ... but it traps a lot of people.

Hope it helps,
Andrew

You're running in what's called "Small (or "Tiny") Footprint Mode." To
change back and forth from this mode to regular mode, just
double-click on the border.

It got that way because you double-clicked the border inadvertently.

You're welcome. Glad to help. No need to feel stupid. You're far from
the first person who ever got into that situation.

Necunoscut,

Double-click on the very top of the task manager.
