My USB SP2 fix

Like others I had connectivity issues with USB after SP2 upgrade. The front
USB ports would not recognize any device except for my Lexar Jump drive (I
believe because there was software for it on the computer). I should say that
all my USB ports were full except the two front ports and they wouldn't
recognize devices they had already seen under SP1. What I did was order
another 5 port USB Pci card and installed it, Windows saw it fine and when I
connect my camera and mp3 player to the ports on that card they are
recognized and function. I am not sure why this worked but it did. P.S. the
two front ports still do not work.
As a general comment, I believe there must be a way to reset the USB ports
on a Windows XP SP2 machine. I think this is where the problems lies. I
wonder if under Device Manager you can delete all your USB ports and then let
WinXP SP2 find them again upon rebooting. Would the USB ports then work
again as they did before SP2?

Pat,
First off, thank you your response.
I would like to try your proposed solution however I have one additional
question before I do.
I have 6 USB devices that were connected to this PC before the SP2 update
that function fine and continue to do so under SP2, my fear is that if I
disconnect these devices from the PC they will not be found again under SP2.
The only devices that were not found under SP2 were ones that were not
connected to the PC when it was updated, namely my digicam and mp3 player. I
also recently tried to connect a brand new Epson printer (USB) to this PC and
it would not install, I had to return the printer because for me, it was
unusable.
My question is this, if I do the rollback of the drivers and upon reboot the
PC does not see the devices where do I go from there? As I said, right now
they are working and I'm very leary of essentially unplugging them.
Once again thanks for your response and any further assistance you can give.

I did the same as you and windows said I had to istall the drivers for it to
work but could not use the drivers I had received with my usb2 card as it was
only for windows98 windowsXP has its own but would not work. So now everytime
I turn on my notebook I get the message that the device will not work and I
can not roll back the drivers for it because it doesn't list the device.
Bummer.
