Since you failed to include what it was you suspected caused the issue, your
rant serves little purpose other than venting.

You're right!

The issue started the 18th or 19th according to my experience. Microsoft
perhaps was not aware of It <ROFL> but our PC's started act funky about
them. Then on the 20th, 21st and 22nd machines started to ONLY be able to
be used in SAFE MODE. These are XP Pro machines with SP2 installed all with
installed OS from DELL.
Calls to DELL tech support on the 20th, 21st and 22nd get you no place but
to tell you to WIPE OUT the drive and start all over. DELL tech tried but
not even their techs having access to each machine with their automated
service could help. Our company spent two days on various levels of
escalation with DELL and all they could offer is to back up everything, wipe
out the OS, reinstall the drivers and OS and then reinstall all your
software.......
Then we call MICROSOFT on the 23rd and the tech people did not even admit
that they were aware of ANY trouble. They get us to spend hours on the
phone with them dismounting all our drivers and uninstalling all our
security software and anythinkg not microsoft they now state that we have to
reinstall also.
This issue has caused our company so much down time.
This Windows Genuine Advantage outage for XP has hurt our company but
Microsoft's lack of care in informing every XP Pro user of the danger at
least gross negligence. I'm sure that BILLIONS of dollars will be lost by
small businesses like myself who tried to correct the issue and we ended up
with lost, files, work, time, productivity and revenue.
Our company felt that XP was a secure and stable OS and it's not. We've
tried VISTA and it's not ready for primetime as it also has numerous
problems.
Now who makes us whole for the WGA issue? I'm sure as a small business
owner I'll have to eat it!!! Venting is all you can do. As the damage is
done!

Perhaps you would like to share, specifically, how the
"WGA issue" resulted in "lost, files, work, time, productivity
and revenue".

We need our PC's to work. If I can't work it results in what I stated.

Since the PC's could only be started in safe mode drivers needed could not
be used for printers, video, networking and web sites. The time on the
phone with DELL & Microsoft was no fault of ours and the public should have
been informed. Working in TV we need our PC's to function outside of "Safe
Mode" so we can use the functionality of the PC and the software; just like
you are doing right now.

The WGA issue viewed a group of hard working honest people who paid for
their software as criminals or at least tagged their PC's as not having the
right to something that they paid for.

If enough people file claims with the insurance companies they will then
work out a deal with Microsoft for damages. Is that correct.... or does
everyone harmed have to file as a class?

I'm sure the news division will know Monday as will the CNBC folks. We'll
see. I'm sure that Apple will jump on this too with some more TV and print
ads that are Apple vs. Microsoft driven

But for you to ask such a question as a Microsoft MVP; you're kidding
right?!

The blogs are buzzzzzing. Not to be snide but perhaps we can get our money
back by going short on MSFT I'm sure "The Market" will react and it
won't be positive.

Glad you asked the question. Thanks for your help Microsoft MVP Carey
Frisch you asked a question a lawyer would ask not a company that cares
about its customers.

Ok what was your experience?

What happened? Be specific on "funky" ... also what happened to those
systems did a) someone install something, b) someone delete something, c)
did you ask the folks (assuming you have anyone) who manages your systems>

ok but answer what happened ...

so why are you flaming on a newsgroup..

Small businesses do not have revenue in the billions and clearly you had
only lost data over a few days (but then you did not really specify one way
or the other). What does WGA have to do with your "data loss" .. you did
not indicate anything clear other than "something funky on the 18-19th" and
then you came back here and mentioned WGA screwed your systems .. were you
running pirated software ?

Who setup your environment and who manages it? I asssume they got fired ....

Same point i raised earlier on WGA ... be specific or stop flaming a
newsgroup where you clearly are not going to get help as a small business
owner vs. a support contract you would have had w/ Dell and other.

With your incoherent tale of woe, its no wonder you lost data. If you could
not clearly state the problem here, you probably did not clearly state the
problem on the phone with Dell and Microsoft. You state "unknown" reasons
for "funky" behavior, then being told to "dismount drivers" (whatever that
is). Then you somehow come to the conclusion that WGA was the cause of all
that "funky" behavior.
If you, my friend, are the IT person at this TV station...I now see why some
channels are down quite often.

Sounds to me like an office spread bug. Your problem is not Microsoft, it's
internal.

When each machine updated through windows, norton or another program that
required a re-boot then they could only be restarted in safe mode. If you
read the boards many people haved the same issue. As for our IT software
needs in our group, DELL and Microsoft are paid by contracts to take care of
everything with one phone call. Microsoft so tore our systems apart that
the only recourse was a full install on each one they worked on. A complete
waste of time. When these PC's tried to revalidate on re-boot..... we got
screwed.......

According to DELL and Microsoft it was not "A Bug". The issue is with the
PC's that tried to validate. Each one cheked out fine accorrding to DELL
and MIcrosoft
