When I ran update I was advised to download the above removal tool. I did
this but don't know how to use it. It suggested I may have one of the above
worms which is why the update appeared in the list and yet my AVG antivirus
hasn't picked this up. Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Don't use MS products to remove infectors on MS software.

Use AV vendor products. Obtain McAfee's virus and worm removal tool, Stinger:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

1) If you are using WinME or WinXP, disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDoc...SysRestore.htm
2) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
3) Using McAfee Stinger, perform a Full Scan of your platform and clean/delete any
infectors found
4) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform
5) If you are using WinME or WinXP,Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any
System Restore preferences, (e.g. HD space to use suggested 200 ~ 400MB),
reboot your PC.
6) If you are using WinME or WinXP, create a new Restore point
7) Please report back your results

You can read all about the tool and what it does here:

I got the download too, but everything came up clean.

I was also advised that I needed this, but I knew fine I didn't. So I
ran it anyway and of course it said no infection found...

Hmmmm...

I received the download and installed it. Nothing happened. It keeps
showing me that the download is available. I ran the removal tool from
symantec which showed that I did not have the virus. I can't get rid of the
icon that says that I have an update available for install. Does anyone know
what I can do to correct this. I have SP1 installed so I don't know if this
has anything to do with it or not, or if it is just a mess up on microsofts
part.
