a few of my obervations of what seems to be the secretive and mysterious side
of Win XP auto update:
1) While connected to the internet suddenly the win auto update icon would
appear on the startup tray. If the mouse is pointed on the icon it would show
that 12 % or some number downloaded and continue to increase.
If you double click on the update icon, normally another window would open
up to give the stats of the down load..but in the above mentioned incidents
no pop up window would "pop up" leaving me wondering what exactly is being
downloaded.
Since I have set my auto update settings to confirm priot to action,
normally once the download is complete I get another window with the ready to
install message, but with the above nothing happens. The update icon just
disappears and that is it.
any answers?
2) Another strange observation which happened yesterday: along with the
anonymous win update icon, another icon came on the startup tray with no
identity. I started system performance monitor and in the applications tab I
could see one unnamed application running with a message 73% complete and as
I was looking went up to 93%. since there was no name for this application I
ended the application. I do not know if any of you would be able to figure
out what it was.
cheers.
