Naming ripped cd's

I am using Windows media player 2006 Microsoft version 11.0.5721.5268;
Windows xp professional version 2002.

Here is my problem: I rip books-on-cd to mp3 files, and then copy them to
my mp3 players to listen to. Within the "rip" section of Media player, I try
to name the ripped files in sequence (I edit the title given), so that I can
easily identify them on my player. For example, if I am ripping the novel
"American Pastoral," which is on 11 discs, I will try to name the first
ripped disc 1--1--1, the second 2--2--2, etc. and save them in a folder
called American Pastoral. Then I copy American Pastoral to my player and can
easily listen to the discs in sequence. The problem is, I will rip a disc
that I have tried to name 1--1--1, and when the rip is done, Media Player
might have put a few tracks under 1--1--1, and a few other tracks under
folders called "Unknown Artist." So I may end up with 3-4 folders of ripped
track rather than one. This wouldn't necessarily be a problem, since I can
copy all of the tracks into the 1--1--1 folder, but, often, when I copy then
them to my player, they revert to the original ripped file designations: a
couple of tracks under 1--1--1, a couple under one Unknown Artist folder, a
couple under another Unknown Artist folder, etc. [It doesn't help if I
don't edit the original title -- for example -- American Pastoral 2 --
because then the ripped tracks may end up with a few tracks in American
Pastoral 2, a few more in Unknown Artist, a few more in a folder called
Philip Rothe, etc] So the whole sequence gets mixed up, which may be okay
with music, but not with books. My question is, how can I force the Media
Player rip process to rip a disc and story all of the ripped tracks under my
designated folder? Many thanks for anyone who can help.

WMP is probably set to automatically organize music files according to
album artist/title, so that explains why they are reverted to their
original location when you copy (or move?) them.

Instead of copying or moving files in Explorer, you need to correct the
artist/track information in WMP's library. Navigate to the tracks in
WMP, select a track, right-click the info you want to change, and select
Edit. You can also edit the info by using the Advanced Tag Editor, in
the same menu. After doing this, WMP should automatically place the
tracks in the correct folder.

Regards
