NAS Box vs Windows Home Server: Malware Considerations?

I'm running WHS as my home server with Avast for anti-virus
protection on the server. No problems so far, and it's been a
few years.

If I were to put a NAS box on my home LAN (as in
http://tinyurl.com/2eg3kb9), it seems like there be an anti-virus
exposure insofar as it's files would be exposed to any PC on the
LAN which could connect... i.e. a guest's PC might be harboring
a virus....

Have I got it right?
