Need administrative rights

I am a member of a domain. When I install programs on a different machine,
I'm able to do it. However, when I try to install programs on this new PC,
it says that I don't have administrative rights. When I look in the user
accounts program to modify it, my account doesn't even show up. What's going
on here, and what should I do?

In a domain, it is usual to set workstations up so that domain users do
not have the right to install programs. Normally one logs into the
workstation as local administrator to install programs.

Check with your systems administrator.

We're a small company. I guess I'm the system administrator. A consultant
helps me out.

Why would I be able to install programs on two different Vista machines with
the same domain account?

Since I can't see those computers and don't know what is different about
them (and obviously something is different), I can't answer that.

Log out of your account, log in with a domain administrator account (if it's
a small company, someone's got it or can do it for you) and add Domain Users
to the administrators local group.

Log back in as your original account, you're now a local admin.
