rundll32 is a wrapper for a .dll to run as a program, maybe if you see what
is wrapped in those, you can solve the mystery.
upeksvr.exe = fingerprint server process for vista

Hi,

It would be normal for a hard drive to spin up when the system is first
turned on. Anything being used has to be loaded to ram from the hard drive,
and it certainly can't do that without spinning up.

Incidentally, by disabling superfetch and indexing, you are causing your
system to work harder to achieve the same results. Searches will take
longer, and commonly used files will not be preloaded for quick retrieval.
Those routines are designed to speed the system's response based on the
user's pattern of regular use.

Did you disable or limit virtual memory as well? That would contribute to
additional spin time, especially if the amount of physically installed ram
is low.

Writing to $logfile is normal.

Delldock does what it's name implies. It monitors to detect a connection to
a docking station.

Upeksvr.exe is software for a fingerprint scanner. If your model has one,
this would be normal.

Rundll32.exe is used to run and load routines housed in 32-bit library
files. You would see one instance of it for each process currently running.

Try process monitor to get more details on what's going on:

Well duh, when you put your car in drive the wheels start to turn.
Otherwise you would just sit there going nowhere.

When you boot up from a cold start naturally your HD will spin up...it
has to in order to load Vista and whatever software gets preloaded. It
is perfectly normal to hear your hard drive go a little crazy for the
first minute or so.

Watching Resource Monitor will always show Vista doing something.
Vista, if a person would be considering very high strung, nervous,
can't sit still. Vista is designed to always be doing something. It
will perform housekeeping tasks on it's own if you're not asking too
much of it in the way of running applications. Is all this normal?
Yes.

Relax.

Just in case you did not see it, try some of the tips here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=243342
Otherwise, check Event Viewer in depth - Applications and
services/Microsoft/Windows/Disk... or whatever, for ex.

Wow - Is that really true? The wheels star to turn when you drive? One
question, when YOU drive, do you need to keep all the windows down for your
EGO?
