My Bro d/l a virus which caused my computer to crash. his friend tried
to "fix" it and installed a bootleg Vista, well eventually it asked for
a serial number i didn't have and I couldn't get into my desktop or
anything. My computer originally came with XP (home edition) but I don't
have the reinstallation/reboot disk. So he had to reinstall that bootleg
vista but we know i only have a limited time before i won't be able to
log into it.. so now I need to get XP back.. Can someone please help

Well, there is nothing you can do except borrow someones OEM XP Home disk
and use your OEM key that came with your PC to install it. You can reinstall
XP using the following tutorial:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

Try not to use a name brand OEM XP disk, such as one from Dell, HP or
Gateway, since those are hard coded to the systems they are distributed
with. If that does not work, the only recommendation is to contact the
manufacturer you purchased your Computer from about getting a replace disk
or recovery disk for your Computer.

Its a 25 character key with a combination of Letters and Numbers. As Mick
notes you can easily find it on the computer case: Side or Top, on laptops
its usually located under the bottom of the laptop.
