need help with auto update

Sat AM - could not get an applications to start- be-boot failed
Brought up in safe mode as thought maybe malware added last night so looked
for dates
Found log in Windows for Updates
This is what I found on Windows Auto Update Messages

Started last night at logoff when it "deleted event cache file" Friday 4/22
Sat AM - messages WU client failed to load 0x800705b4 (firewall?? maybe)
Logoff errors - no update at shutdown hr=8024000c

WUAUENG 5.4.3790.2182

Tried to stop WU from running at all with selective start - still cannot
load programs.

So we are dead on the XP computer at the moment

Cannot turn of firewall or remover virus/firewall (PCcillin) as cannot do it
is safemode and cannot do anything when the system comes up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did try the registration updates in safe mode - no help.

You can do a system restore if you can get into safe mode otherwise you will
probably need to run repair off your windows CD.
