Hi i have a problem with window update, i go to check for updates on Vista
Home Premium and i get the error message and says: to install updates from
this website you must be logged on as an administrator etc. where as i am the
administrator, mines the only account on the computer, ive never had problems
installing updates before, if any one can help id appreciate it, thanx.

Sean - did you solve this? If not, try this - it worked for me. I have
Vista Home Premium but Windows Automatic Update was only getting updates for
Windows, not Office 2007 and I got the 'you're not admin' error message when
trying to update Office separately, which can only be done through the MS
Update site.

I tried various suggestions from other threads about firewalls, permissions,
etc, which didn't help. Then I did this:

Open User Accounts > Create New Account > Select 'Administrator' for the
Account Type. Enter a name and password to create the account. Then Start >
Switch User > Log-in with the name and password for the new account.

You get a 'clean' setup. Cancel any 'new user popups', go straight to
Windows Update in the Start Menu. Be prepared to download and install an
hour or more's worth of backlog updates! When all's done, you can switch
back to your original user account and, as if by magic, find it's working
properly there too.

Aloha, 'roglam'...

You're my hero forever and ever!

After HOURS of frustration trying to solve the problem, in great part
with some very unhelpful MS techs, your solution took a couple of
minutes to accomplish and had IMMEDIATE positive results. Windows
Updates downloaded in a flash...well, STARTED downloading in a flash. ;
)

Bravo, and thanks SO much (mahalo nui loa).

Thanks a lot Roglam,

I'm using Vista Business and Office 2007 OS; all of the sudden the MIcrosoft
Update site did not work again, for two months I looked for a solution,
untill you came to the rescue,

after days spent following various suggestions to modify folders, registries
and similar things; you just come up with this brillant idea.

Not to bash Microsoft but why are they allowing customers to spend precious
time and cannot come up with a solutions for the problems created by them?

As a matter of fact this your solution is not appearing in any official site
and users around the world are still following their KBs leading to no where.

Thanks again.

Roglam,
After 3 days of frustration, and numerous corruptions of my windows registry
trying to find a fix, your brilliant solution worked for me.
