Right click My Computer, click Properties
Click Advanced tab.
Click "Settings" button under "Start-up and Recovery"
Uncheck "Automatically Restart"
Click OK and follow prompts.
Next time instead of restarting, you will see the error which should be a
clue to the actual problem.
You may have a driver issue, update your drivers to the latest versions
available from the computer manufacturers/component manufacturers website..
Random restarting may be caused by overheating.
Open the case and check to be sure all fans are turning and moving air.
The power supply has a fan.
Many processors and video cards also have fans.
The case may have additional fans.
Also make sure the fans are reasonably clean.
Clean the debris from all vents and make sure you feel air moving from the
back of the power supply.
If you still have restart issues, since this is a Windows Update newsgroup,
you should post to a Windows XP newsgroup, probably the hardware newsgroup:

Do NOT attempt a Service Pack Installation until all issues, known and
unknown, are resolved.
