It is not the "lock" function that is your problem. If you had locked your computer, you would get the Welcome Screen when you turned in on.
Do you get any of the information shown on the screen during the POST setup?
I suspect you have hardware problems. Start with checking all of the cables to the monitor for a loose connection. Make sure the monitor is getting power. Try the monitor on another computer or try another monitor (got a friend you can swap with for a short period?).
If all else fails, take it to a technician (not a big box store like BestBuy).

Minor detail for the OP: if you try your monitor on a friend's computer or
borrow a friend's monitor - if the substitute monitor has a different
resolution from the original, boot into safe mode. Otherwise you might have
to deal with incompatible settings (i.e., unreadable picture or parts of
the picture being displayed off-screen).

Every monitor and every video card can handle the safe mode resolution :-)

no signal to the monitor during POST? or once windows starts to load?
does the light on the tower come on? do you hear the fans spin up?
is the power supply plugged in, does it have a switch? is it ON?
what video card? or is it onboard video?
no signal during POST is not a good sign, what is the make/model of your
machine?
I would make sure the video card is seated properly and the cable is plugged
in properly.
if that doesn't work, try a different monitor (borrow one or buy a cheapo
CRT at a thrift store for $10-15)
if that fails, swap in a known good video card.
