need help please with updates

Checking for the latest updates for your computer...
scan's but does nothing else ?

the last thing that worked was
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
on 01/24/08 said it installed ok but sence then when i reboot i get a
message
about Windows Genuine Advantage Validation could not be verified
