OK, I have not been able to get window's updates (always get an error and
they are NOT installed) and think have figured out why, now need a solution.

Because of a mess of spy-ware, etc. I had some at a web-site help me out and
"clean" the system up with a lot of registry deletions a few weeks ago. One
of the things I was told to delete, were all the active-X files, being they
are reproduced when the programs are run again.

Now I am told that when you go to download an update, MS looks at an
active-x command that proves your windows copy is legit. If that file is
not there, guess what....

Well, how can I restore this active-X file for windows XP Home, sp1?

Download and reinstall the V5 of Windows Update Active X Controls at:-
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/wusetup.cab
Save the wusetup.cab to a location you can find, extract the files, then on the
wusetup.inf, right click and select install.

Hi Larry, perhaps you had better copy and paste the last few lines (with the
errors in) of your Windows Update Log, or note what error codes you are
getting and post the same:

How to view the Update log in Windows
Open Internet Explorer and either type or copy and then paste this into the
Address
bar: %windir%\windowsupdate.log

Perhaps then you might be able to get more assistance with your problem. I
may not know the answer but someone else may.

Have you had any success in installing some of the updates manually?
