I recently bought a new laptop with a built in video cam and Windows Vista.
How do I create a video I can email to folks that they can view using most
standard media players, like Windows Media Player

Which brand?

HP usually includes webcam software from Cyberlink, called YouCam.

Sony includes some SW too.

I imagine any manufacturer does the same. If there's no manual, maybe
the OP can try Help or the manufacturer's web site.

I have a Sony LT. They include Arc Soft. I was hoping to be able to create a
video that coulbe opened by more common products like Windows Media player,
etc. Maybe that's not possible. I figure mine can only be opened by folks
with Arcsoft

It seems very likely they will have the option to save video as wmv, avi or
one of the other formats supported by Windows Media player. If not you only
need to download the codec (coder/decoder) to view the video, not the whole
software.
