The only way I can get internet to my computer is by manualy configuring it's
IP addresses to recieve the internet from anouther computer. I've configured
IP v4 and can now access the internet on it, but whet I try to update it, I
get the 0x8024402C error code. Now I need help with my IP v6 configuration.
What's the IP v6 equivalent of 192.168.0.1?

Error code 0x8024402C when you try to install updates on Windows Update or
Microsoft Update Web sites
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=900936

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you receive the
0x8024402C error
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...cleid=30&ln=en

There's possibility that a hijackware infection's at the root of all this:

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run additional checks for hijackware if need be, including posting your
hijackthis log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjuction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

IMPORTANT! => If it's a DNS.Changer variant infection, you'll need to clean
all machines on the LAN and reset or reinstall the router. If you don't,
the machine will be reinfected within seconds.

None of that has helped so far. I now have the internet directly on my
computer now and am still having the same problem. My computer is now getting
it's internet through a Sprint wireless broadband card connected through a
PCMCIA adapter card. I can still get online through IE, but Vista's built-in
windows update is still giving me the same error code. No spyware or viruses
have been found by both methods you suggested, and I've posted my HJT log to:

http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachi...sg7901#msg7901

Any other suggestions?

BTW, I just looked through my HJT file myself and it doesn't look like
there's anything suspicious in it. I researched the 2nd 'O4' line and it's
just my sound card driver; Lines O17 and O23 are related to my ISP's DNS
numbers and software. And then the rest are all Microsoft/Windows related
entries.

I did do all of the "do's" at your first URL, but... oopppsss... Looks
like I did #2 on the "don'ts" list (reply to your own topic). sorry!

On your 2nd URL, I did do all of that except for putting my HJT log in my
post instead of attatching it to it. Sorry. Didn't know. Seemed like the
logical thing to do since the file attachment feature was there.

And on your 3ird URL, I don't have one installed. I have just got done
reformatting my HDD and installing Vista and it's SP1 update (from a file,
not online or through vista's built-in windows update).

I'll post my HJT log to that forum, but I don't think it's going to help get
down to the source of my problem; there wasn't any suspicious entries in it.

Do NOT begin a new thread! If you can Edit your first post, remove the
attachment and copy/paste the log into the post. Otherwise, post the log in
another reply and state why you didn't do so right off the bat.

Otherwise, there's a very good chance your thread will be ignored.

PS: Do NOT reply to my post in that thread!

The absence of any anti-virus application looks very suspicious to me!
