Need login now?

Hello all. This is actually a Window Mail question, though probably
applicable to Live Mail too if I use that for newsgroup posting.. But I
don't see a group for it.

I've been using the msnews.microsfot.com service for many years, in Window
Mail and OE.

Suddenly I'm being asked for a password for "communities" before it allows
me to post.

Is a login now required for the MS News server? Or has the communities
function somehow been turned on, and, if so, is there a way to turn it off
so I can use simply posting to the news server without having to sign in?
(My ISP dropped its news server, so I can't go in that way.)

No, a logon is not required for msnews.microsoft.com

If the news server name is misspelled then your ability to create group, etc may not be successful

The web server(communities) interface has been problematic for some time...most find it best to uncheck 'Use Newsgroup Community
features' in WLM
- Tools/Options
