I need a new computer - but Vista reminds me of ME

I bought a deadend DELL abot three years ago that has no upgrade capability
for the processor except for a very tiny path.

I will be buying a box - and my present box supports Vista - I do not want
Vista on the new box. I have two TV cards on my system - with Vista
drivers available, but Vista OS would eat the extra oomph I need for the
system - so the new box would only help the OS - not my hardware.

Do folks know of a manufacturer that will sell a box without an OS?

thanks

I still don't understand how Vista reminds you of Windows ME?

Vista features vast improvements to the desktop including a graphically rich
interface called Windows AERO, Instant Search capabilities, enhanced
Security, Multimedia, 64-bit computing, improved deployment and tighter
integration with the Web through new features such as Sidebar Gadgets and
Really Simple Syndication (RSS). Included in Vista are new under the hood
features such as Windows Presentation and Communication Foundations and the
..NET Framework 3 for creating powerful, connected and more secure
applications.

I don't remember ME having any or supporting any of the above. But we're all
entitled to our own opinions. Also, Windows ME is based on the Win9x
codebase.

He isn't talking about the features between the two products. Windows ME
sucks, crashes, is very unstable, etc..... So is Vista.

Are you currently using Vista (don't lie!)?

There are probably hundreds or maybe thousands of computer builders prepared
to supply a machine without an OS.

Google will pick them up as I have no idea in what part of the world you
are.

Do you now use Vista? Do you or did you use ME?

I use Vista occasionally, but my main work is still with XP. I tried ME way
back and when I found out what a disaster it was, I distanced myself from
it.

I haven't had the suckage, crashes or unstable OS that they speak about.
I've been very lucky with all the systems I have running Vista. But, reading
these forums, I know others are having problems. Not to the extent of
Windows ME (which I owned for ~2 weeks, preinstalled on a laptop. Worked on
several PC's running ME.), but it is still an issue. HOWEVER, people don't
post when they aren't having problems.

I do recognize that there are issues with Vista, and they seem to be fairly
common, but not to the extent some are claiming. The comparison to Windows
ME isn't correct. It's more like XP pre-service packs.
