Hi,

Vista x64 SP1.
I am trying to remove an item from the Start Menu/Programs that was just
installed there. I get the message "You need permission to perform this
action." I assume it is in the user/public folder. I have administrator
privileges. What should I do?

Thank you for your help.

Confirm the delete operation. You may be prompted to enter your admin
password in order to proceed.

The Start Menu items in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start
Menu\Programs" are protected by Vista. As long as you have admin access, you
may as well edit contents of the Start Menu directly in this folder.

Thank you for your reply.
I tried to delete the item directly in the folder you mentioned but still it
gives me a :recycling..." message box and then another message that says
"Destination Folder Action Denied" and "You need Permission top perform this
action. Try again - Cancel." Clicking Try again does the same.

Any help?

Thanks.

Open up the folder in which this particular item resides. Hit Refresh, or
just press F5, and see if it disappears. You may even have to rebbot in
order to check if the change has been carried out or retry.

That last line should read "You may even have to reboot in
order to check if the change has been carried out, or else reattempt to
delete the item."
