Negative for Update genuine Windows XP Pro

I bought long time ago, almost immy after release, the Windows XP Pro.
I used it for more than 3 years with the legal code furnished by
Microsoft .
Two days ago when updating, I downloaded all of them and at the end,
Microsoft asked me to purchase a genuine product.
I had the serial number with me at anytime.
I do not know the way to complain it by mail, as I could not find a free
way to get them.
I am not prepared to pay USD 35.00 for a problem which is not mine.
I understood that when you buy a genuine product you do not have to
bother anylonger.
Any hint how can I get this problem solved, please ????

You do not have to pay anything if the problem is not yours.

By your statement, I take it you mean you bought XP and it came with a jacket that had the sticker with product key & COA.

If you purchased XP at retail, you may contact MS for help and support on this issue. See following link and follow the prompts.

Let's see if I can spell it out more exactly for you.

You were not willing to call your problem in because you did not want to
spend $35.

I told you that if the problem was not yours (in other words - your copy was
legit) you would not be charged. So that you would know you could make your
phone call with confidence since you were sure your copy of Windows XP was
legitimate.

So now - you can follow through with the only people who can likely help
you.

I'll even go further and give you this Windows XP Professional support
information page:

Many thanks again. Now I got the sense of your reply.
I tried to e-mail MS but they say I have exausted the 2 trials and I do have
to pay USD 35 for attendance.
I do not agree. What I will do is reinstall the genuine XP Pro that I have
and see how the updates will behave.

You are right. I bought the genuine Pro with a jacket and a sticker with
product key on it.
I had already tried e-mail MS but they say I have exausted my two trials and
now I have to pay.
Forget it, I wont do.
So, I will reinstall my genuine product and see how the updates will behave.

Sdruws, You need to ring them, not email them. Ring them and give them and
let them know your problem, if they decided to charge you then I would
suspect you and confusing them as well as us

Thanks for interest.
Better now is to reinstall my genuine product.
I tried to avoid it because normaly you have to customize every thing again.
