.net 1.0 sp3

I've been thru many steps to attempt to make .net 1.0 SP3 for
successfully install on my PC but nothing has worked so far. I DL the pack
without using Updater, and I'm told it is incompatible.

I have many "successful" installs of the "MS XML Code Services 4.0 SP2",
but when it sees .net 1.0 SP3 not installed, it is installed all over again.

What does it take for this to work properly?

Do you have some code that specifically runs (only) under the 1.0 framework?
Personally I've seen marked improvements with each subsequent release 1.1,
2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 (3.0 and 3.5 just build on 2.0)

this is part of the Windows Update, flagged 'critical'. As it is flagged
'critical' I'd rather not hide it.

If for some reason, Windows update keeps gettting you that update, I'd
simply remove .NET 1.0, if you have later .NET version (1.1 and/or 2.0...)
installed.

Not seen that one. Do you have subsequent versions of the framework
installed?

after fixing the SP1 issue, this patch has finally applied, but the
"Security Update for MS XML Code Services 4.0 SP2" continues to be
successfully installed, successful 4 times today.

several problems solved, 1 still exists.
