After updating to .NET 3.5 SP1 and the August08 security patches for Vista
SP1, I lost detection of my ATI 650 PCI digital and analog tuners in Windows
Media Center. I subsequently tried to install the original Catalyst Media
Center (XP version) that came with my tuners, but received a message that I
had "too many 16-bit programs trying to run" in Vista Compatibility
mode...for which I wrote a separate support thread.

Back to the point...I subsequently attempted to re-load my .NET 1.1, 2.0. &
3.5 SP1, discovering in the process that 2.0 will not install on Vista SP1.
I am currently receiving several errors that the ATI executables are not
locating .NET 2.0 Foundation Assemblies or runtime assemblies:

Failed to merge manifest file: c:\Program files\ATI
Technologies\ATI.ACE\MOM-InstallProxy\mom-installproxy\MOM-installproxy.xml
with exception: Could not find file 'c:\Program Files\ATI
Technologies\ATI.ACE\MOM-InstallProxy\mom-installproxy.xml Error called by
ATI.ACE.CLI.Foundation.MergeManifest::ReadManifest

ACEEvent Log Error --- ATI BDA Digital Tuner - error C0040524, EventID=487:
Called by:
ATI.ACE.CLI.Aspect.DeviceDFP.Graphics.Runtime.RT-DeviceDFP::Parse
processID:08008
threadID)domainNameCCC.exe)assemblyNameCLI.A spect.DeviceDFP.Graphics.Runtime), version=2.0.3134.40097 culture=neutral PublicKeyToken=90ba9c70f846762e

ATI.ACE.CLI.ComponentRuntime.Runtime::RunProcessID :07588

assemblyNameCLI.Component.Runtime, Version= 2.0.3134.39951, culture=neutral
PublicKeyToken=905a9c70f846767e) Event Data: Caste [0] is null

(several others...) "CCC.exe" above is "Catalyst Control Center"

It appears that .NET 1.1 has the current runtime environment if I am
discerning the .NET Framework Configuration Utilities properly, but I can
locate CLI.Aspect.DeviceDFP.Graphics.Runtime 2.0.3134.40097 in the Assembly
Cache.

My Control Panel indicates that I have .NET 1.1, KB929729 hotfix for 1.1,
and 3.5 SP1 Frameworks installed.

Since the graphics & tuner drivers, .NET runtimes, registry, and Media
Center all must align properly to function correctly...how should I proceed
in mitigating this?

Did you try uninstalling SP1, then installing .Net 2?

Process that I followed:

removed .NET 3.5 SP1
removed .NET 1.1 SP1 hotfix
rebooted
re-installed .NET 1.1 SP1 (I do not think I actually removed 1.1 due to
fear of unknown)
re-installed .NET 1.1 hotfix
re-installed .NET 3.5 SP1
rebooted
