I recently reinstalled XP HOME SP2 again, I am wondering about the
WindowsUpdate feature. I'm not sure if it's any better or worse than
MicrosoftUpdate, BUT I do have a question about possibly speeding up the
process.

When I first check WindowsUpdate after installing, it downloads maybe 5
updates then wants to restart. Then it downloads about 72 updates, then wants
to restart. Then there is still a few more.

My question is ... if I downloaded .NET 3.0 does that also include
everything .NET 1.1 and 2.0 have or should I download all 3? Because it looks
like all three are available to download even though it might be easier and
more efficient to just download the 3.0 version.

Also, if I download IE7 separately before running WindowsUpdate so it might
not HAVE to download all the updates for IE6 first? Or will this cause
problems?

If I have to reinstall again I might find out, but I'm wondering if anyone
already has an answer.

YOU HAVE SUMMED UP ALL OF THE NONSENSE I HAVE BEEN THROUGH. IT IS NO LONGER
FUN TO "NAVIGATE" THE INTERNET; YOU NEED CAPTAIN STUBING FROM "LOVE BOAT" TO
STEER PAST THE ICEBERGS of viruses, and most importantly, the inability to
easily update the computer. There are many ways of catching your
hotmail....how do I know how one knows the diff between popmail, smtp,
etc..., etc....TELL BILL GATES THAT INSTEAD OF GIVING HIS MONEY AWAY JUST
YET, HE SHOULD MAKE THIS USER FRIENDLY...PERHAPS INSERT A TALL BLONDE VIXEN
WITH COMPUTER SKILLS WITH EACH "UPDATE",,,, ACTUALLLY, HE HASN'T GOT IT RIGHT
YET....THIS IS WHAT I IMAGINE CIA OPERATIVES ARE DOING...TRYING TO KEEP ONE
STEP AHEAD OF THE GAME. BUT I PASSED ON COMPUTER IN COLLEGE WHEN I SAW PEOPLE
CARRYING STACKS OF DOT MATRIX PAPER ....YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

Don't know the difference between
PS2 and...
Why farm out customer support to the Philippines?
Seems kinda strange...
They don't even make "HELP" in the USA...anymore.

They're three completely different beasties. I would avoid downloading them
until you run into an application that needs one.

As a side note, I didn't take my own advice above and installed all three.

Then one day a couple of weeks ago during a reboot of the system WinXP gave
an error message about something or other being corrupted and .NET 3.0 would
be removed. When the dust settled I checked and sure enough it was gone. A
visit to WUP indicated that it was available for download. I declined and so
far haven't regretted it.

YMMV.
