.NET 1.1 SP1 tmp56.tmp

I have .NET 1.1 and I've downloaded SP1 for .NET 1.1 and attempted install
many times, but I just get a pop up box; the exact text of which is: "The
feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the
installation package 'tmp56.tmp' in the box below." I am connected to the
Internet, I downloaded rather than ran the SP1 file, and having searched my
computer I can confidently say that there is no "tmp56.tmp" file anywhere on
it.
Any ideas?

Gunther,

See if the steps laid out here provide a resolution of the issue :

I found that earlier - alas none of it works. WEll, it works in the sense
that it does what it's supposed to do, but it doesn't fix my problem. I've
uninstalled 1.1 and reinstalled it countless times, but the SP won't install
because it can't find tmp56.tmp. Thanks anyway (that documents helped me
with .net problems in the past).

Does the Hard Drive have more than one partition ? IOW, is %windir% on
another partition than Program Files is ?
The installation of .NET 1.1 SP1 may be storing the temp files on the
partition with the most space available and can't locate them.
If that's the case, suggest moving Program Files back to the same
partiton as %windir% and see if that allows SP1 to install.

It hasn't got any partitions to my knowledge - how would I know? I've only
got it listed as "C:" in 'My Computer'. Is the file something that doesn't
come with the SP 1 download?

Here's the article we need, Gunther. It's by an MS employee who's a
Program Manager for Windows Media Center :

More detailed steps to fix .NET Framework install errors that ask for
tmpXXXX.tmp
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...10/502439.aspx

Try that as I have a feeling it will resolve the issue.

You're welcome, Gunther. Glad to hear the issue is resolved.
Technically, that article is from MS, but it arrived here in a
circuitous manner.
