Like everyone else, the update failed for me as well. I
followed everyone's suggestion of using the clean up tool to remove
..NET 2.0, then reinstalling it, and then reapplying the update. It
still didn't work.
I then tried downloading the .NET 2.0 redistributable file,
and the update from MS Download Center, and uninstalling, then
reinstalling .NET 2.0, rebooting, then applying the patch. I get a
message that says "The installation source for this product is not
a`vailable. Verify that the source exist, and that you can access it."
Someone suggested trying to apply the patch from the
administrator account. I tried, but it says that the windows installer
can't accessed. How would I enable the installer under administrator
account?

I went to control panel add/remove programs removed net framwork 2.0 only,
left 1 alone, restarted, then went to micosoft downloads and downloaded
redistributable net framework 2.0 file (x86 one), restarted, then went to
updates to manually update and it worked. I restarted again after the update
and everything was fine.
