.NET 3.5, sp1 update - redistributable and via WinUpdates

I downloaded and then subsequently installed the .NET 3.5, sp1
redistributable package ( 231MB) on a WinXP, sp3 machine and everything
seemed to install fine - and it shows up in Add and Remove Programs. But
when I run Windows Updates it appears that it wants to download and install
the entire version again ( ie 249MB worth listed as .NET 3.5 sp1 and Family
in the KB951847 article). Is there something funny going on with the way
this .NET 3.5, sp1 framework installs and then checks/updates via Windows
Updates ? Shouldn't Windows Updates realize that I already have that
installed, even though I manually installed it? Or are there somehow
multiple versions of the .NET 3.5 framework that need to be installed on
WinXP (at about 250MB each) ? TIA ...

Update should know you installed SP1. I'm guessing but the issue maybe
because you did not also download and install the follwing three items:
NDP20SP2-KB958481-x86.exe
NDP30SP2-KB958483-x86.exe
NDP35SP1-KB958484-x86.exe

A search at the Microsoft download site will lead you to these downloads and
explain the order to install them.
