.NET & Security Update for Windows Journal Viewer (KB886179) Faile

Security Update for Windows Journal Viewer (KB886179) Failed. Prior to that
problem, Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 also continues to fail.
Running Windows 2000 Server with Small Business Server 2000. Have tried
multiple installs of .NET Framework, still hangs or fails on install
attempts. Have not tried anything with Journal Viewer install problem.

I had this problem as well. I found the problem was with my web accelerator.
I had to log in without a proxy and then I was able to download the update.

Update downloaded with no problem. To be sure, I went to MS site & downloaded
again. Problem is with the installation of update. Either installation
freezes with bars across most of module or all the way across as if it had
installed. OK doesn't cause it to close, the "X" does, but it says
installation not complete, etc.

If 'fails' here as well.
Did you have a look at the Event Viewer "Application" Log?
Mine says:
"Product: Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer -- Error 1706. An
installation package for the product Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer cannot
be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation
package 'Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer.msi'. "

The problem is solved here.
I simply downloaded Journal Viewer 1.5 again from the MS website, and
pressed the "Repair Installation" button.
Security Update installed fine after rebooting the machine.
