I am convinced, Vista is another Windows ME (garbage which should have
never been released).

Did you not read the article?

"We can get people online without the installation disc," he added. "It's
not that it does not work, it's just the disc."

It's the disk that is the problem not Vista........Why should Microsoft be
responsible for making another companies disk work?

whining again.
they have had weeks if not months to bring their programs up to SP1 status.
and have failed.

it is not vista sp1 at fault.

Dave, ever consider MS should have made Vista more BACKWARD COMPATIBLE.
Their lack of that consideration is ONE of the reasons Vista has not
made M$'s expectations for sales (Vista is a flop).

Maybe you should see if the broadband suppliers in question have solved the
problems they were having in Vista. That article is a year old. It was
written a little over two months after Vista's release. I'm pretty sure the
broadband suppliers have updated their installation discs by now :-)

At some point in time you got to let go of yesterdays technology to make
room for tomorrows. Each new version of Windows (or any OS) will have
incompatablity issues with older programs and hardware, if it didn't we
would all still be using DOS (or what ever). If you have things that need to
run on yesterdays hardware or software use yesterdays OS.

I personally look forward to the OS of the future.........not complain about
what doesn't work from the past. I want my halo deck baby! and making an
OS use my older software/hardware wont get me there. Vista is just one
stepping stone to my halo deck. Could you imagine what people would do if we
just went from DOS to XP? Baby steps people baby steps!

Having an OS that pushes hardware manufactures to step up to the plate and
build faster equipment or software companies to design software with newer
features is fine by me. As it ultimately benifiets us all in the long run.
YES there will be bridges to cross and but that in my eyes are expected.

There are many alternative OS's one can use if they don't like the way
Microsoft is headed. Whinning about it wont change a thing, if you want
change hurt them where they will listen, their pocket! It's simple just
don't buy Microsoft use Linux.

Bullshit.

Plenty of other companies have no trouble ensuring backwards
compatibility in both hard and software. They take pains to do so because
they play in a competitive space and failing to preserve their customer's
existing investments would result in losing those customers.

Even Microsoft used to do this back when they also faced competition.
How long did they keep that old 16 bit DOS stuff around exactly because they
needed to preserve compatibility?

>I personally look forward to the OS of the future

Bah. I just want something to route I/O. You can keep your wizards
and fancy graphics.

>Having an OS that pushes hardware manufactures to step up to the plate and

You're putting the cart well before the horse. The OS should
transparently support existing hardware and software while presenting
a stable and extensible platform that allows APPLICATION developers to
wrtie advanced applications. Years of "Of course the browser is part of
the operating system!" have skewed your viewpoint. Needing faster hardware
to drive a new application is reasonable. Needing new hardware and new
applications to drive a new os at the same or lesser performance as the
current configuration is bullshit.

None,

You really don't have a clue, do you? Why don't you ask someone for
help in solving your problems?
