.NET Framework 1.1 install failure

I have had this on my computer for awhile now and even got the 2.0version.
But now I went to windows update and it wants me to do the update for .net
framework 1.1 update but can't. I have been reading though these boards here
and tried everything i could.
To start I got to the board that said to uninstall all the .net frameworks
(1.1 and 2.0 if installed) 2.0 uninstalled without any problems but when I
tried to uninstall version 1.1 I couldn't. The message I get is it looks for
the netfx.msi file and can't find.(it was a windows update). So then I found
on here where someone said it needed to be repaired by downloading the file
and repairing it. New error message came up (useing the dotnetfx.exe) saying
"Micosoft .NET Framework Setup Failure". OK. Then I found where someone
mentioned to remove the files in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download, I
did that and to do the cmd where I believe it is because I'm missing the
netfx.msi file, I did that and when I go to do this cmd>dotnetfx.exe
/t:%temp% /c:"msiexec.exe /fvecms %temp%\netfx.msi" <Enter> it promts me
to install the program and I click OK and like before can't. If I click
cancel nothin happens?????

So there it is and still not working or should I say can't install or
uninstall .NET Framework 1.1 (not the update and not the 2.0 version). I am
inquiring only about version 1.1 and issues with that??????
