I am running Xp profesional x86. I keep getting an udate for net framework
1.1 sp1 and I do not have net framework version 1.1 installed. When I accept
and let it install it fails. I can just hide the update but why is this going
on?

Double check to verify you do not
How to determine which versions of .NET Framework are installed and
whether any service packs have been applied:
See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318785

You may of had .NET 1.1 installed by a software application
you have since removed and some vestige of .NET 1.1 is
still on your PC.

If that is the case then try:
Aaron Stebner's .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool User's Guide
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8999004.aspx

Automated cleanup tool to remove
the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...30/611355.aspx

After running the Cleanup Tool see if Windows Update still tries to
install .NET 1.1 SP1

Are you *absolutely certain* that there are no Microsoft .NET Frameworks
listed in Add/Remove Programs ?
Please run the NET Framework setup verification tool to confirm that
there are no .NET runtimes present:
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...3/8015158.aspx

IF any traces are found, you can run the

Automated cleanup tool to remove the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0
and 3.5
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...30/611355.aspx

and that will 'finish' cleaning up *anything* .NET-related that was left
behind.

IF no .NET runtimes have ever been installed to the system then it's
conceivable that 3rd party software *may* have started a .Net runtime
installation that was subesquently cancelled, leaving just enough bits
and pieces behind that automatic update detected that .NET 1.1 was
installed.
