Is .NET Framework 2.0 Required on WinXP HE SP2 ?

My son downloaded and installed .NET Framework 2.0 on home PC, on 11.11.06,
along with 2 Sec Updates KB922770 & KB 917283...(These appear in Add/Remove
Programs)...ever since then it appears that Auto Windows Update on my PC are
not occurring. Yellow notifier appears in taskbar for seconds, then
disappears. Tried Windows Update site, selected all updates required (today
11/15 there are 6) and all failed to install. Tried this 2x, after reboot of
PC.... any relation to NET Frm 2.0 and Automatic Windows Updates, why they
are failing ?

You only need .NET if you have applications that won't run unless you have
it - ask your son what he's also installed that needs .NET - if the answer
is "nothing" then uninstall it and don't give him permissions to install
anything in the future. (In fact I'd do that anyway.....)

Thanks Gordon...Unistalled .Net Frame work, after I slapped him across the
head. (LOL)...not required, and he is now blocked from downloading anything
else.
BTW the Windows Update Server appears to be working again, I was just able
to download and install all the new critical updates....works OK now.
