.NET Framework 2.0 x64 install results in error 0x1011

Hi all,

For some reason .NET Framework 2.0 x64 won't install on my system.
Each and every attempt, after a few seconds, results in a message 'failed' -
without stating any reason at all, which is very helpful ...

From the update log it can be seen that all attempts end with an error
0x1011. Searching the Microsoft site for this error code draws a blank,
except a vague reference suggesting it means the program can't connect to the
update server.
That is strange for 2 reasons: I'm using a permanent high-speed broadband
link, plus the update program specifies that the update already has been
downloaded. Just for sure I ran the update program with the antivirus program
(Avast) disabled, but that seems to make no difference at all.

Any help appreciated

I am having the same exact thing happening to me. I closed Zone Alarm and my
anti-virus programs and it still didn't help. I wonder how this is to be
resolved?

I haven't much to offer at this stage, but a checkpoint:-

<snip>
Required Software:
Windows Installer 3.0 (except for Windows 98/ME, which require Windows
Installer 2.0 or later). Windows Installer 3.1 or later is recommended.
IE 5.01 or later: You must also be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01
or later for all installations of the .NET Framework.
Disk Space Requirements: 280 MB (x86), 610 MB (x64)
Important: Make sure you have the latest service pack and critical updates
for the version of Windows that you are running. To find recent security
updates, visit Windows Update.
IMPORTANT: If you have installed previous pre-release versions of .NET
Framework v2.0, such as Beta 1, Beta 2 or Community Technical Preview (CTP)
builds, then you must uninstall these versions via Add/Remove Programs in
Control Panel before installing this final release version.
<snip>

Yes, these conditions are met in my system:

- all versions except .NET Framework 1.1 have been removed, including SDKs
and betas
- the latest update software has been installed.

I've no idea what causes it, so any other ideas are welcome
