.NET Framework 3.0 will not install

I have been trying for several days to install .NET 3.0, and I am getting
nowhere. I was able to install on my XP Home machine, but my XP Pro machine
will not take the install. I get the phase that .NET Framework 3.0 has
encountered an error and installation will stop (paraphrasing).

I have tried everything on this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100/en-us

Any thoughts for what to look for? I have the install logs if there is
something in there that I can pull out to share. I parsed the log, but
nothing jumped out at me. Nothing shows in my Event Log either.

Download .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and install it. It's install routine
installs/updates the previous versions and you should then be fine and
updated.
