Hi anyone,
I started to have problems with windows update some months ago,
apparently due to an activeX control problem. The Windows Update
tries to check the latest version in my pc, and after a while, it says
"ERROR number: 0x8DDD0004 - delete Temporary Internet Files -
re-open Internet Explorer". I tried that, as well as many other hints
from the "experts" of windows support center (while it was free), but
no way. Among those: reset IE settings, disable IE third-pary plug-ins,
rename temporary folder of Windows Update, clean boot environment,
etc. etc. etc.
1) My IE settings are:
automatic prompting for activeX controls: DIS
download signed: EN
download unsigned: DIS
initialize activeX not marked as safe: DIS
run activeX and plug-ins: EN
script activeX marked safe ... : EN
- is there any way to check if it is due to an activeX control problem?
2) I tried the suggestions in:
http://www.updatexp.com/support-files/0x800b0004.pdf
but all of them failed. It says that these suggestion solve the error
0x8DDD0004 in a 99.9% of the cases, unless in some rare
circumstances, like "ActiveX control issues" .....
2) the WindowsUpdate.log gives:
2006-01-17 17:00:00-0500 2544 e08 Trying to make out of proc datastore
active
2006-01-17 17:00:01-0500 2544 e08 Out of proc datastore is now active
2006-01-17 17:00:01-0500 876 cfc WU client succeeds
CClientCallRecorder::EnumerateService
3) Windows Update sites are selected as Trusted Sites
4) I have a XP home version 5.1 build 2600.xpsp_sp2_ ...etc.etc. Service
Pack 2
5) In the IE add-ons manager, the WUWebControlClass (for activeX controls)
in Enable, calling the wuweb.dll. Is any way to check if this library is
corrupted?
Any clue?
Thanks in advance,
Marcelo Castro
The windows support center gave me tons of hints
