.net updates errors

hello,

i keep getting lately the same updates notifications about the next .net
ramework patches:
Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant
1.0 x86 (KB963707)

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family
Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86

however, when i try to update, it keeps failing. i tried to uninstall
anything of the .net framework (using the add/remove window and then the MS
cleanup utility) and start the installation all over again, but it didn't
help. i also tried using a special tool for removing any traces of .net
framework from :
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...30/611355.aspx
nothing helped. when posting about this in a forum, the only answer that i
got is exactly what i have done (because that's what i've found ) :
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/923100

can anyone please help me? i really need to use the .net framework properly .

btw, i use a legal windows xp home edition, sp3 , 32bit OS .

UFO,

Did you reinstall any of .NET Frameworks ? There's nothing in your post
that indicates you *reinstalled* any .NET Framework.
If .NET Framework 2 is not installed then the updates will never
install.

***Which .NET Frameworks were installed previously ? **

well, i have tried to re-install them, but none of them worked (all gave me
errors) . after a lot of work, i succeeded to restore the previous state of
the computer so that at least i have something running.
currently, the add/remove programs window shows that the next versions are
installed: 2.0 sp2 , 3.0 sp2 .
however, using the verification tool from :
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8999004.aspx
, it tell me that 2.0 sp2 is ok, yet 3.0 sp2 and 3.5 sp1 are not.

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2. Delete the contents of the Download folder:

Start > Run > (type in) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]
Open the Download folder and delete its contents
Close the window.

3. Go to Windows Update website | Select CUSTOM and allow the scan to
complete | Uncheck/deselect KB963707 & KB951847 then hide them ("Don't show
me this update again").

4. Start the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Start
(Starting the service will take a moment)

stopping the service doesn't make the automatic updates icon from appearing
,and so in step 4 it was already started.
in any case, those steps do not allow me to install the latest versions of
the .net framework(version 3.5 for example) , and it also doesn't allow me to
patch them. it only ignores them all.

so what should i do in order to fix those problems? even the icon of the
automatic updates keep appearing and when i click it , it just dissappears
and come back a few moments later.
how can i install and update correctly the .net framework? it's really
important for me. i have to use it for a project that i have (visual studio
uses it).

If you properly completed Steps #1 through #4 in my previous reply, AU
should no longer be prompting you to install those updates.

QED: Other than the updates being offered by AU, what makes you think you
need them?
