My OS is XP Home, SP2 with all updates in place except I held back on
this one until I could read more. I checked as MS site said and my
version is 1.0.3715. Wondering if I should attempt this update or not.
The information on the MS site is a little confusing. Appreciate any
advice. Clementine

Clementine,

..NET Framework 1.1 is an update version of the framework you already have
installed in your Windows operating system. The framework is used for many
things, but some of them have to do with software that newer applications
need to run. Without getting technical, there are libraries and files that
were used in the design of some new software. The software will only work
properly if it can call on these libraries and files to execute.

Having said all that, some applications will work on .NET Framework 1.0 and
some use the added functionality of the .NET Framework 1.1. The
recommendation I would make to you is to go ahead and install it. They
install into different directories, so only a few registry entries are
overwritten with this change.

Let us know if you run into any issues.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]

Thank you Pat. Held my breath and a restore point. Installed just
fine.
