I have one of these Netgear PCI 802.11g adapters in my Dell. The Netgear
site shows only the initial release of the driver yet Windows Update has a
driver update dated July 1, 2005. The ndriver update was installed
automatically by Windows Update. About every 3-4 hours, the driver hangs so
completely it takes a power off restart to get access to the Internet again.
I've removed the driver, and the next day I find it re-installed and hanging
my system again. Microsoft should make sure the code trhey accept for
Windows Update is real honest to gosh functional code and not and apparent
beta release by some vendor. I've tried getting Netgear support to no avail
as their system doesn't reflect the code that's being distributed by
Microsoft. Microsoft wants to change me $35 for problem determination. So
much for quality control. My suggestion is to turn off automatic updates if
you have one of these cards installed.
