I am now trying to set up a few machines with the full, upgraded version
of VPC 2004.

My first one was an XP which gave the problem when started:

===
The network adapter with address "00:00:00:00:00:00" of virtual machine
"..." failed to initialize because the address is a null address.
===

I found that the <ethernet_card_address type> tag was completely missing
from the VMC file (which was generated on the machine), and the problem
was cured by copying the same line from the corresponding VMC file from
another machine where I experimented with the Trial version of VPC. The
XP in question runs very nice, like I want it to.

Now I have migrated a SuSE 9.3 system from my trial machine. The VMC
file gave the above error, manually editing it in from numerous VMC
files containing a valid MAC-address didn't work, and the hint to insert
an empty tag in the help file all resulted in the tag being emptied when
starting the VM.

After creating a "suse.vmc" from scratch inside My Virtual Machines
along with the virtual harddisk, it does not show up in the Virtual PC
console, and clicking on the VMC file directly starts the SuSE VM, but
still resets the Mac-address.

Since my primary purpose of this exercise is to get our networked test
configurations running, this is somewhat a showstopper, and I would
appreciate any further help.

The machine in question is a AMD64 with a Danish XP as host system with
1 Gb RAM and plenty of diskspace. The network is an "NVIDIA nForce
Networking Controller".

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
