After re-enabling updates, (disabled since 12/05/05 for student testing)
certain servers with Windows Server 2003 and like hardware lost their network
connections and also had about 15 services refuse to start. Some errors in
the event manager state that the endpoint manager is to blame. Any ideas?

After applying the June updates, all of the network icons disappeared. The
network connections service reports as Starting and never gets any farther.
The is on windows 2003 active directory servers. Using ipconfig the network
connections look ok. And If I am on the server I can access other servers but
the server will not accept any incoming connection.

I have tried removing the June patches but still can not access the server
from the network.

I have heard, but not yet tried, that using the server install cd and
trying the repair option will enable network services again. I believe that
would mean the server will then be unpatched.

Some more symptoms.

Volume shadow copy seems not to be working. I think that is also true of the
other
servers that are having a problem with the update

When Looking at service dependencies for Network Connections services, the
Message "win32: access is denied.” shows up

These are my symtoms as well. All afected servers have the Intel 865 or Xeon
version (7500 I think) chipset. Others where not affected. Also noticed that
it seems to only affect Domain controllers.

I have tried the repair option on the windows 2003 installation cd.
It did restore network connectivity.
The server is now un-patched.

Active directory seems to be functioning ok.

I am now reapplying the patches and will do more testing after the patches
have finished.

After re-applying the patches the server displayed the same symptoms as before.
I will need to re-repair.

I do not know which patch or combination of patches causes the problem.

Probably something in the June patchs.

Both domain controlers and non domain controlers are affected but not all
servers of either type. I do not know what is different about the affected
machines.

I am also having this issue.

Can't recall which patches were applied. I have uninstalled them,
rebooted, but the same issue.

I have noticed that I am able to ping the server from another box while
it boots and is 'preparing network connections'. However, once it hits
'Applying Computer Setting', it becomes unresponsive. I also get the
Win32 error message when checking service properties.
This issue has shut down IIS, Exchange, etc. On the phone w/ MS at the
moment. Free call. I'll try to repost the outcome. I really don't feel
like doing the repair+repatch route.

The problem seems to be some how related to the default domain policy.

If you remove the computer from the domain and apply patches it works fine.
When the computer is put back into the domain the problem returns.

If you disable the default domain policy and repair and patch the problem
does not come back.

At this point I have moved the built in default domain policy to an OU for
testing purposes and performed a repair and patch on the effected computers.
The last I checked the domain seems to be stable. A co-worker reported the
workstations are also affected. He is to do more testing on the OU I attached
the old default domain policy to.
