Is there any software out there that I can limit everyone's computer on the
network? I have 2 wireless connections and 3 cabled connections and when
some of the users starts downloading I can hardly surf WebPages

The router I have is a 3COM 3CRWDR101A-75

cheers

Your connection is 7Mb (megabits), not 7MB (megabytes).

There are eight bits in a byte, and 1024KB in a MB (unless you are a
hard-drive manufacturer).

So that would equate to 0.875

So 7Mb/s = 0.875MB/s = 896KB/s

ss.

I think you need to work out with your router. May be buying a more
expensive one.

Netlimiter should do the trick.
http://www.netlimiter.com/

I have tried Net Limiter, but I don't think that will do the job, only
becuase it didn't show any other computers connected to the network

G'day Clayton

I suspect your best bet will be to configure rules on teh router (as Hoplex
suggested).

That 3COM model you have, has quite good facilities for creating rules.
Check the manual under the "PC Privileges", "URL Filter", and "Quality of
Service" sections.

By configuring on the router the rules are centralised, and beyong the reach
of ordinary users fiddling with their own PCs.

O'course you could also give the offending user a smack across the ear -
what we refer to as a "non-technical solution".

I've only played with Netlimiter briefly so I am by no means an expert, but
I do think it would work. But I also think it would have to go on each
workstation. That or you could setup a workstation in the "middle" as a Net
sharing box and have Netlimiter on that.
