I have Vista Home Premium 64bit and everytime I install this new performance
update KB938979 my network connections goes dead.

The network icon at the tray menu says "The dependancy service or group
failed to start" when I put mouse cursor on it and when I go to Services menu
in the Control Panel the network services are not started. When I try to
start for example Network List Service I get an error

"Windows could not start the Network List Service on Local Computer
Error 1068: The dependancy service or group failed to start."

Everything goes back to normal when I uninstall this update.
What's wrong with this KB938979 update?

This was solved by replacing a new version of tcpip.sys driver over the old
one. It turned out to be corrupted somehow and that's why those services were
not able to start. Now everything works with KB938979.

I tried replacing the tcpip.sys like you said but it made no difference,
disabled the ingetrity checks and all that... maybe i need the tcpip.sys that
you used, could you possibly upload that somewhere or give further
instructions? Thanks.

Hi

I patched my tcpip.sys to enable more than 10 half open tcp/ip connections
and that was the reason this update failed. After this Vista update Windows
saw this tcpip.sys driver as not properly signed and failed to load it. I
just uninstalled this patch and it copied the original tcpip.sys back to
where it was before patching. So I don't have any special version of this
file, just the original which came with Vista.
If you are suffering from this same problem, just uninstall any 3rd party
tcp/ip patches.

I have missed the original tcpip.sys. Could you send me one.

Thanks
