I have managed to set up my PC and laptop into a working network through
Vista. When I ask the laptop to use the printer on my PC it puts up the
Connect to PC box and asks for a user name and password. I wasn't aware
that I had one. How can I find this out or negate it. When I look for
add printer it happily shows me the one I have on my PC but just won't
connect to it without the username and password.

Anyone any good ideas for me? They would be greatly appreciated

Open Network and Sharing center (Start>Control Panel>Network and Sharing
Center). Under Sharing and Discovery, check that Printer Sharing is on and
that Password Protected Sharing is off. Also check under Network Discovery
that your laptop is in the same workgroup as your PC.
