I just installed the drive last night. It is formatted and I can acces
it if I type it's letter, F: into My Computers address bar or if I tr
to access it through DOS. However it just has no icon in My Computer

Interesting part uis that after typing F: into My Computer's addres
bar, it suddenly appears in the folder list on the left. It stays ther
until I close and re-open My Computer, then it's gone again

Hi, Phil.

What does Disk Management say about that HDD? Press Start, then type
"diskmgmt.msc" and press Enter. You'll need to furnish Administrator
credentials to pass this point.

Disk Management has been THE tool for managing hard disks - and any other
device (such as optical drives, flash drives, cameras and card readers,
etc.) which can be assigned a "drive" letter - ever since it first appeared
in Windows 2000.

Once the letter has been assigned specifically in DM it should consistently
appear in Explorer and everywhere else. By the way, "My Computer" is in
Windows XP. Vista dropped most of the "My" designators; in Vista it's just
"Computer".

I do try to say just "Computer" as you can see where I wrote it in m
last attached picture, but I'm afraid people will get confused withou
the "My" So I drop it in there once in a while

Anyway, as you can see below, it looks perfectly fine in Dis
Management

The Seagate 1 TB drives are prone to early failures. Return it now and save
yourself data loss.

do one thing open open diskmanagement then right click on that drive and
assign another drive letter to that drive. this may solve your problem or
creating two partitons of that disk will solve the problem.

I tried this with no luck. I would really rather keep it as one
partition if possible.

These all seem to be about Seagate 1TB drives that are installed inside the
case. Is that right?

Do you have a compatible disk controller?

The new drives are now SATA 2 (3.0 Gb/s). Is your controller capable to
support SATA 2 devices? Some disk drives have a jumper that enables them to
work in older SATA controllers.

I don't know about SATA2, but my motherboard's box says it support
3.0Gb/s. Yes this drive does have a jumper, the drive's manual says i
the mobo doesn't support it crazy stuff will happen like constan
failures and the sky will open up and rain candy. I can access th
drive and save files to it

Called up Seagate tech support and after an hour of waiting got thi
link
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/15...ide-unhide.htm

Tried each method (I have Ultimate) and restarted after each. No luck
But at least it's a start. She claimed that it was some securit
feature in Ultimate that would hide all drives by C: by default. Whic
doesn't make much sense, especially since my K: drive was visibl
immediately as soon as I plugged it in and booted the computer
