New Au install

Can anybody inform me of a AU about 2 to 3 days ago.
The Update does not appear in my update history or Add & Remove programs. I
remember seeing a reference with the word SUN during the download.
Reason for my curiosity is that for the past 6 to 7 months my AU worked fine
but trying to access WU manually I would always be diverted with a sorry
message and a URL for MAC updates, now manual and AU updates work fine and I
am thinking that the AU I had received had a correcting effect on my manual
update site viewing ability.

Prior to that update my previous AU updates occurred on 4/15/2005 and I know
they had no effect on correcting my problem with manual viewing of WU site.

Would appreciate any comments if anybody had a AU at about the same time.

Stan

Stan,

It was a java update for the Sun JRE and was not from Windows Update nor
Microsoft. Apparently the installed Sun JRE was either damaged or
corrupted and that is why the system could not access the Windows Update
site. Now that's it's been updated, the older JRE is no longer needed.
Best to check in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel to confirm
that a newer version of the JRE is installed, then uninstall the older
one as it's no longer needed nor functioning correctly.

Thanks MowGreen,

In Add Remove programs have two listings for Java,

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 2, 117.00 MB

Java 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.4.2_06, 108.00 MB

Only 1 Icon appears in control panel for Java.

Which version J2SE or Java 2, is older.
Don't want to lose access to WU by removing the wrong program.

Hi Stan,

You're welcome. This is the older version and can be safely uninstalled
from Add/Remove Programs :

Java 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.4.2_06, 108.00 MB

The other icon is an applet that allows you to set the options for the
JRE. You can disable the icon from showing in the system tray when java
is run, set the cache to the size you prefer, and select which
browser(s) that you want to use the JRE, for example.
Open it up and go over the options that are available.
