New Beta installer or Why is Microsoft releasing Beta Software via
updates?

I ask the question as one of my Windows XP machines has automatically
downloads all Window updates, has a new update today (3/24/05). The
update is for Windows Installer 3.1, beta.

So is this update reversible? or how I can I cancel this update?

Windows installer 3.1 beta is part of the Microsoft update beta. I am not
sure if it is reversible but you probably have "show optional beta
components" checked in your Windows Update Settings. When you open Windows
Update click on the settings button and uncheck the checkbox for Beta
components. I would not install the 3.1 beta because it will link your
computer to the Microsoft Update website which is not guaranteed to protect
your computer like Windows Update.
