Ref my post the other day about Vista. To the several replies which were
all very positive, thank you, it seems this newsgroup is a cut above most of
the others. John P

You Should Have Waited Until April When The OEM's Will Start Shipping
Service Pack One Of Windows Vista On Their New Computer's, As Windows Vista
RTM Currently Has At Least 45 Security Related Windows Updates For Windows
Vista Ultimate Edition Totaling At Least 100 Mega Bytes Of A Download Size,
It Takes A Very Long Time To Get These Updates Downloaded And Installed Even
On Broad Band (I Have Comcast High Speed Internet And It Takes A Very Long
Time For Me To Get Them All Installed), Just FYI. See If You Can Get A Copy
Of Windows Server 2008 RTM (I Got A Copy Of It Off MSDN And I Am Waiting
Until Microsoft Posts The Integrated Copy Of Windows Vista SP1 On MSDN To Go
Back To It, I Do Own 3 Non-MSDN Windows Vista Ultimate Edition Product
Key's, Just In Case Anybody Is Wondering Whether I Am Legal Or Not), And
Install That on Your Computer Until You Can Get An Integrated Copy Of
Windows Vista Service Pack One RTM, Just FYI.

P.S. The Most Severe Windows Update Affecting Windows Vista RTM Is
MS-08-001, Which Is Very Similar To The MS-Blaster Virus Vulnerability, And
The Sasser Virus That Affected Windows XP RTM And Windows XP Service Pack
One, You Can Get A Virus Simply By Connecting To The Internet, And Because
It Takes So Long to Get The 45 Security Related Windows Vista RTM Security
Updates Downloaded And Installed, You Have To Remain Connected To The
Internet For A Very Long Time (And You Are Vulnerable To Getting A Virus
Until You Get All 45 Updates Downloaded And Installed), And Then By The Time
You Re-Boot Your Computer, It May Be Already Too Late, Just FYI.

P.P.S. I Will Also Mention That For Some Reason Or Another, Microsoft Update
Has Been Very Slow Lately, And That's Even Though Service Pack One For
Windows Vista Is Not Yet Available On Windows Update, Just FYI. I Seriously
Think That you Made A Big Mistake By Not Waiting For An OEM Copy Of Windows
Vista Service Pack One, Just FYI.

P.P.P.S. I Plan To Begin Beta Testing Of Microsoft Windows 7.0 Just As Soon
AS It Ends Up On MSDN And Microsoft Tech Net Plus, Which I Have Heard That
Considering The Fact That Microsoft Plans To Have It Finished By 2009, Beta
1 Can Not Be Too Far Away, Also Just FYI.

Until this week I had never heard of SP1 for Vista, all I want is a computer
that does the things I want when I want them. Maybe Microsoft have shafted
all the unknowing buyers of their latest, but they did that with XP as well
.. I will just have to keep my fingers crossed and wait until SP1 comes out
on a disc rather than download from the Internet and use up all my
allowance. All the clever stuff is just too much for me. Thanks for the info
anyway. John P

John,

I bought a Vista computer for my daughter also on Saturday. The OEM had all
updates through December and I only had 17 total downloads (4 were optional
and I took all but one of those) for windows then a further 11 after I loaded
up her Office 2003, so it may not be as bad as Kevin stated. It took maybe
20 minutes total, and only about 10 for the windows updates, so I wasn't
downloading all that long. Hopefully your computer is also relatively
up-to-date.

Perhaps you are one of the fortunate few who have a reasonably fast internet
connection.

Please remember that you can still belong to the human race if you live more
than a couple of kilometres from a fibre optic network.

Regards
