Hi

I suddently have a problem with live messenger. I have added a new contact,
but he appears offline all the time, in my live messenger, but in his wlm I
appears online.
Selecting him on the contact list says that he is not on my list of
contacts, but I can add him by pressing here. But doing so nothing happens.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling wlm but without any luck.

I suppect that something is wrong with my wlm installation as im am only
able to sign in with my own user on my pc. Trying with another account it
just tries to sign in for a long time where after it says service
unavailable. Does any one know how to delete all of wlm without having to
format your pc ?

Greetings Kim,

You don't need to format. Just shut down Messenger if it's running, then download and run
this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...lmpolicies.reg

Now start Messenger again and sign in, within 40-60 seconds your new contact should appear
online (if they're really online).

Hi Steff,

It sounds like you have a hard disk problem of some kind which probably isn't best solved by
peer-to-peer assistance on the newsgroup. However as a starting point click Start, then Run,
enter "cmd" and click OK. Then in the command
prompt, type the following:
chkdsk /f
and press enter. Press y to schedule the check for the next reboot and then reboot for it to
automatically scan and correct any file system problems.

Then when Windows comes back up, log in and try running it again.

Actually I found another site the suggested your link or to delete a key in
the registry that referred to msnmessenger. I did that and it worked.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Hi,

Actually that's what the reg file does. But, I think you have some bigger computer problems
you really should deal with in the near future.

Hi
I ran the check disk and no problems were found. I haven't noticed any
other problems when using the computer and I use it a lot. Is there
something else I should be looking for?

It basically forces the contact store to be retrieved from the servers.

I'm bringing this back up because I tried the registry clean, and it worked,
but within a day, my list was pretty much back to troubled. Obviously my
computer or WLM is doing something to the registry??

Help
