I just installed Vista SP1 and a few other updates that were offered
after the SP1 update finished. Now I have a new icon on my desktop named
desktop.ini

This is the content of the file:

[.ShellClassInfo]LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell 32.dll,-21799

Why is this icon now on the desktop? Can I safely delete it? Thanks!

John,

Did you choose to ' Show hidden files, folders, and system files ' ?
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...l62.html#vista

If yes, then rehide system files and the desktop.ini will no longer be
showing.
If no, then move the newly created desktop.ini to the Recycle Bin for
now and see if any error messages occur.
Wait a couple of weeks and then empty the Recycle Bin if no error
messages happen.
